Walter T. Bannerman (b. 1967; d. 17 June 2007) was the son of Joe Bannerman, the husband of Sarah Bracknell, the step-father of J.J. Bannerman, and the biological father of Hope Smith. He served as the sheriff of the Penobscot County Police Department until he died in a fire at the Faith Heritage Chapel while struggling with Malcolm Janus (who also died) on 17 June 2007, at which point he was replaced by Sheriff pro-tem Anna Turner.

Bannerman's was portrayed by Chris Bruno.

Bannerman's character was a combination of two characters from the novel: Penobscot County Sheriff George Bannerman, and Sarah's husband Walt Hazlett.
