Vic Mooney is a minor character in Carrie. He is a student at Ewen High School in Chamberlain, Maine.
Novel[]
In the novel, Vic is Ewen High School’s senior president, who announced Carrie White and Tommy Ross as the winners for Prom King and Queen.
He is the one who laughed the hardest at Carrie, when she got drenched in pig’s blood. He survived The Black Prom, where 99 out of 110 students and teachers died, but barely escaped. He had traces of elecrocution and a swollen eye caused by Mr. Stephen who told him to go to the firedoors, which he did. He met Sheriff Doyle after that and it was obvious, that he was wounded by Carrie, too. He told him everything that happened. He had a crazy expression, a mixture of happiness regarding Carrie´s humiliation and terror because of her vengeance. Sheriff Doyle had to slap him to stop his craziness, which manifested time and again until he finally put his head down out of guilt, when he told Sheriff Doyle about the evil prank against Carrie and Tommy. After that an explosion at a nearby gas station called Tony’s Citgo, caused by Carrie´s rampage, slammed Vic into a car, which made him unconscious.
After everything was over, it turns out that he has survived the horrible night and it is implied, that he was later sent, at least temporarily, to an asylum, because he couldn´t deal with the events that happened and the role he played in it. He testified at The White Commission regarding the massacre, while he was being treated there. The novel's brief description of him having slicked down hair implies he is a member of Billy Nolan's gang, a gang of 1950s greaser throwbacks
1976 Film[]
Vic Mooney is renamed Ernest Peterson in the 1976 film and he is portrayed by Anson Downe.
He is first seen walking down the hallway with his friend and entering the main office, where Carrie White was waiting to be called in by Mr. Morton. He than latter appears again with Freddy DeLois talking about the Prom committee, Freddy convinces Ernest to allow him to collect the ballots for Prom King and Queen and Ernest agrees. But when he is ask him to be at school at 6:30 p.m., Freddy does not want any of that and blurts out that he will arrive at 8:00 p.m., Ernest becomes a bit discouraged, but consenstes anyway. Later at the Prom he announces Carrie and Tommy Ross as the winners for Prom King and Queen and congratulations them, but than later becomes surprise when Carrie gets deranged in pig's blood.
During the massacre He, along with Miss Collins, The Wilson Twins, The Beak, George Dawson and Frieda Jason try carry Tommy's body out of the gym but they all get thrown out of view by bumping into other students and presumably getting trampled or burned to death.
