Carrie N. White (b. 21 Sept 1995; d. 22 Jun 2013), simply known as Carietta, is the titular protagonist from Carrie. She was the daughter of Margaret Brigman and Ralph White, the granddaughter of Judith Cochran and John Brigman, and the great-granddaughter of Sadie Cochran.

History

For all of her lonely childhood and teenage life, Carrie, whose father died in a construction accident, was berated and abused by her mentally ill religiously-fanatical mother and was later mistreated constantly by her classmates because of her differences. But what no one knew was that Carrie also possessed hidden telekinetic and telepathic powers that were dormant during her youth, but brought to full force by the time she was in high school and had her first period in the girl's locker room. Sadly, when a so-called "revenge prank" at her senior prom pushed her beyond her limits, Carrie used those powers to mercilessly eliminate everyone who ever hurt, neglected or teased her before returning home to confront (and later kill) her crazy homicidal mother. In one iteration of her story, Carrie died as a result of injuries. In the second iteration, Carrie survived the prom night massacre and the trauma associated with it. She then made plans to move to Florida and start her life over with the help of Sue Snell who felt sorry for her. In the third it is not clear and is left to the imagination.

But regardless of the iteration, Carrie has been vilified by the residents of Chamberlain, only because she chose to fight back against the constant and collective tormenting and bullying in a way that most people cannot understand or comprehend.

Book:

Carrie had been going to school with some of them since the first grade, and this had been building since that time, building slowly and immutably, in accordance with all the laws that govern human nature, building with all the steadiness of a chain reaction approaching critical mass. What none of them knew, of course, was that Carrie White was telekinetic. Graffiti scratched on a desk of the Barker Street Grammar school in Chamberlain: Roses are red, violets are blue...but Carrie White eats shit! -Carrie (1974)

In the novel, Carrie White was slightly overweight with pimples on the back of her neck, back and buttocks and had flat mousey, colorless blonde hair. She lived in the town of Chamberlain, Maine with her severely mentally unstable mother who forced Carrie to live a life of isolation and religion with her. The horrible abuse that Carrie endured in her sad life in the book was far more extreme than in the movie versions. Here are two examples: a boy rubbed peanut butter into Carrie's hair when she fell asleep in study hall one day; also, she was also made fun of by other kids at a summer camp when she came into contact with some poison ivy which lead to her peers calling her "Scratch-Ass". Also, Carrie was kicked and shoved into the prayer closet by her mother, when she came home after the shower incident (with the implication, that this was one out of many instances, where Carrie was forced into the closet for offenses she might not have even committed). Also in the book Carrie is sometimes locked in the closet for days on end without food or water or even bathroom breaks.

There are instances, where Carrie's powers manifested themselves without her even trying. They were usually triggered by her own inner frustration and private misery. For example, when she was almost three years old, Carrie asked her next door neighbor, a young woman called Stella Horan, about her "dirty pillows" and was severely scolded by Margaret. Margaret also threatened Carrie with Ralph's butcher knife. Suddenly, a shower of hail fell on the Whites' bungalow, while Carrie was being reprimanded yet again by her mother. Following that incident, a rain of stones pelted against their home causing several damages on the White's property and a table was nearly sent flying through a window. Carrie was also able to read other people's minds, namely Miss Desjardin, the gym instructor, who secretly harbored both utter disgust and honest sympathy for the young woman.

When Carrie was sixteen years old, she had her first period while taking a shower in the girls locker room, which was the worst thing that could ever happen to her. Her mother did not discuss the concept of menstruation with Carrie, resulting in Carrie to think, she was bleeding to death. What's more is, that this could be the girl's first period did not occur to Carrie's classmates. As with everything else, Carrie was teased mercilessly by the girls in her physical education class by throwing tampons and sanitary napkins at her and chanting "Plug it up" until Miss Desjardin came out to stop the spectacle. After slapping the hysterical girl, she then explained menstruation to Carrie (albeit begrudgingly) and even helped to put on her clothes again. A light bulb suddenly burns out above them. This event of the showers "re-triggered" Carrie's powers, which were dormant for most of her childhood.

More of Carrie's powers were demonstrated that day. Assistant Principal Mr. Morton, who dismissed Carrie for the day, kept calling her "Cassie." Carrie yelled, that was not her name and his ash tray fell off his desk by itself. While she walked home, a five year old boy, Tommy Erbter, verbally abused Carrie while riding past her on his bicycle. As Carrie looked at the boy with rage, he unexpectedly fell off the bicycle. This surprised her, but on her way home she remembered another incident, when she was young, when rocks fell on her house, while her mother was mistreating her for having had contact with a neighbor she called herself a "slut", realizing, this must also have been an action of hers.

Later, after Margaret found out about the incident from the school, she beat Carrie, forced her on her knees with her to pray and locked Carrie in the closet for hours to ask God for "forgiveness" for having committed the "original sin" of becoming a woman.

Later on, Carrie was asked by Tommy Ross to go to the senior prom with him. Tommy was the boyfriend of one of the girls, who tormented Carrie, Sue Snell, and Carrie had a secret crush on him. Carrie is skeptical at first but eventually accepts Tommy's request. Sue herself believed that Tommy was the father of her unborn child. Although originally against the idea, Carrie subsequently accepted Tommy's invitation. She was nervous and happy all at the same time. When Carrie told her mother that she had been invited to the prom by Tommy, she threw her tea in Carrie's face. She told Carrie that all boys want from girls is sex. And she will not allow Carrie to engage in such sinfulness. She then proceeded to slap Carrie and ordered her to go in the closet to pray, but Carrie refused. As Margaret tried to hit Carrie again, Carrie stopped her mother's hand in mid-air with her powers and told her mother, that she wants to live her own life and that things are going to change, the ultimate blasphemy to her.

Just before the prom, Carrie tried on the prom dress she made. The gown is of crushed red velvet that allows Carrie's cleavage to slightly show. She also tried on matching high heels and a lovely crosage to complete the look. And for the very first time in her young life, Carrie looks and feels beautiful. When Margaret saw her daughter dressed up, she ordered Carrie to burn the dress and demanded that they do penance together, but Carrie refused. To get Carrie to change her mind, Margaret scratched herself on her face and punched herself in the mouth. Carrie was unmoved by her mother's actions and used her powers to slide her mother out the door of her room. Later that night, Tommy picked up Carrie for the prom, while Margaret prayed in another room.

At the Thomas Ewan High School prom, Carrie began opening up to her peers and even made a few jokes with some of the kids. For the first time since she can remember, Carrie enjoyed herself. Of course, her enjoyment was destroyed by a prank initiated by another girl in her class, Chris Hargensen, the leader of the particular lot of the Mortimer Snerds, who teased Carrie earlier in the book. Chris, her boyfriend Billy Nolan, and some of their other friends, plotted revenge against Carrie by placing two buckets filled with pigs' blood above hers and Tommy's heads and rigging the ballots for prom king and queen to ensure that Carrie and Tommy would win. The couple won and when they went onto the stage to be crowned, Chris pulled a rope cord and completely drenched and splattered Carrie and Tommy with the pigs blood while they sat on the thrones for the King and Queen, soaking them entirely from head to toe.

File:IMG 20140918 015518.jpg

The prank was followed by a rain of cruel laughter. Tommy was knocked unconscious by a falling bucket and Carrie, overcome with humiliation and utter grief, fled from the gym, but returned minutes later upon realizing, that she had a gift, that no one else had. Carrie decided that it was time to teach them all a lesson and show them a thing or two. So Carrie then set about locking all the prom goers inside, teacher and student alike and turning a fire hose on all of the girls to ruin their dresses and hair. However, once the water made contact with some electrical equipment in the gym and started a massive fire, Carrie left everyone inside to the mercy of the hellish inferno created by her telekinetic abilities. Despite her hostile revenge, a few students and Miss Desjardin escaped via the gym's fire exit in the back just in time before being electrocuted and set ablaze with everyone else.

Later, Carrie's powers initiated a rampage causing worse disasters in downtown Chamberlain than at the high school gym: she somehow made gas stations explode and let the gas from the broken pumps to leak into the town. She also made fire hydrants explode, flooding the streets with a mixture of the spilt gasoline, spreading the gas even further along. Carrie even brought down power lines and when the sparks hit the ground it caused many wildfires to burn throughout the town. The destruction destroyed 90% of downtown to the ground, taking dozens of lives with it. Also, Carrie let loose a side effect of her abilities: "broadcast telepathy," which means that anyone within a certain radius of the disaster area suddenly found themselves learning about the destruction at Ewan High and downtown Chamberlain. They also learned from this telepathy, that it was Carrie White causing the destruction, even if they did not know who "Carrie White" was. During the entire event, Carrie seemed completely catatonic and was believed to even be "smiling" as she moved along. She then went into a cathedral to pray, while at the same time, objects from the church (such as pews, hymnals and a Communion set) were thrown. While she prayed, she also let loose a number of power lines, which resulted in a number of people being electrocuted to death.

Carrie finally returned home with the intention of killing her mother. But Margaret then told her the story of how she considered killing herself after having premarital intercourse, her miscarriage, and that Carrie was conceived by marital rape. Margaret, believing that Carrie was completely possessed by Satan himself, took out Ralph's knife from the folds of her dress. She told Carrie, she tried to kill her twice before during the first few years of Carrie's life, but she "backslid." As Carrie fell down to her knees to pray, Margaret stabbed her daughter in the shoulder and hit an artery, causing Carrie to bleed heavily. In return, Carrie used her powers to slow her mother's heart down, eventually stopping it completely and killing her. She then went to the roadhouse where her father drunk himself into a stupor before raping Margaret and caught Chris and Billy fleeing from within. The two tried to run Carrie down with Billy's car, but Carrie "felt" the car approaching and wrestled the oncoming vehicle with her telekinesis and slammed it full force into the roadhouse. The car exploded, killing both Billy and Chris and it also destroyed the roadhouse. After the explosion, Carrie collapsed on the lot out of exhaustion from the blood loss caused by her wound.

Sue, who had been looking for Carrie finally arrived some time later to find Carrie nearly dead. She helped Carrie fulfill her last wish and see the stars before she died and invited Carrie into her mind to see that she had no part in planning the nasty joke that accrued earlier that evening. Carrie found that Sue was innocent and never really felt any hatred towards her but still kept a small grudge. After crying out for her mother, Carrie died in Sue's arms. Seconds after, Sue could feel herself miscarrying, though she initially thought that she was apparently having her period. Whether it was really miscarrying or a period, done by Carrie, or not, will never be known.

She dies on the 28th May 1979 at 2 A.M. Her body was taken away by the authorities after it was identified by Sue Snell to understand the reasons of her death. Her brain was later examined to understand, if she had anomalies in her brain, which may enable the authorities to understand her eventual telekinesis. The night of the "Black Prom" hit the nation bigger than the JFK Assassination and Carrie's story becomes a widely discussed subject. Even a book by Sue is written and a major motion picture movie about Carrie is made some time later.

In the aftermath, Carrie left her mark on the world and left behind a haunting legacy. Chamberlain never fully recovered from the town's devastating damages which caused it to become a virtual ghost town. Carrie was eventually buried in a graveyard and finally put to rest, her headstone makes a cameo appearance in the novel (IT) which also takes place in Maine.

1976 film

The 1976 movie version of Carrie was portrayed by Sissy Spacek. Here, Carrie had long strawberry blonde hair and clear skin and the plot of the movie is close to that of the novel, but certain differences did occur.

IMG 20140914 044437

Sissy Spacek as Carrie White getting ready for the Prom.

This Carrie was similar to the "novel Carrie," in that she was abused by her mother, Margaret, and constantly teased by her classmates. Carrie had her first period while showering after a PE class and, instead of the other girls helping her out, they threw sanitary napkins at Carrie and yelled, "Plug it up!" The gym teacher, here named Ms. Collins, stopped the debacle.

Then Carrie was asked to the upcoming senior prom at Norman Bates High School by the handsome Tommy Ross, boyfriend to Sue Snell, one of Carrie's tormentors. Sue persuaded Tommy to take Carrie to the prom in her place out of guilt for her part in the shower incident.

As the story goes, Carrie's mother would not hear of her child doing something such as going to the prom, for Margaret constantly reminded Carrie, that boys only want to satisfy their intimate desires with girls, and once that happens it will lead Carrie down a road of endless sin. Carrie, however, had had enough of hearing, that everything was sinful. She saw the prom as a new beginning. A further fight with her mother on the night of the prom only fueled Carrie's resolve.

"Don't lie to me, Carietta! Don't you know I can see inside you? I can see your sin as surely as God can!."

Carrie began to gradually emerge from the shell, under which she had lived since childhood, as she mingled with the other prom goers. When she and Tommy were called up to the stage later in the evening to be crowned the prom king and queen, Carrie could hardly contain her joy, because she had finally felt, what it was like to "belong."

But it didn't last long, because, while Carrie and Tommy were on stage, Chris Hargensen and her boyfriend Billy Nolan were hiding underneath to keep tabs on Carrie's location, so that they could unleash the torrent of pig´s blood upon her, when the moment came. When it was over, poor Carrie had blood in her hair and on her gown. Tommy was seething at what happened, but the bucket. that held the blood, fell on his head, knocking him to the stage floor, maybe even killing him in front of Carrie. While some stood in disbelief looking horrified, others were mad with laughter, especially some of Billy's crew and one of Chris' clique, Norma Watson. Ms. Collins, who, earlier bonded with Carrie like a friend.

Carrie stood alone, drenched in blood and on the stage as the last threads of her sanity were broken and had a vision of everyone laughing at her, the teachers too. Finally caving in to her insanity, Carrie became catatonic. She remembered her "gift" and began exacting revenge by locking the gym doors, where the prom took place (crushing Billy's friends within); releasing a fire hose and spraying everyone in sight and eventually hitting electrical apparatus and setting off a huge fire. Carrie left the gym at the climax of her revenge leaving all the students to burn. Later, when Chris and Billy attempted to mow her down with Billy's car and effectively complete their plans, Carrie telekinetically threw the car into a roll before causing it to explode, killing both passengers burning them in flames. When Carrie returned home, she found both floor and ceiling was littered with lit candles. She then went upstairs to wash the blood from her body and change into a nightgown. She called out for "Momma," and found Margaret waiting for her. Carrie broke down and told her mother they all laughed as Margaret said they would. In turn Margaret told her daughter about the night she and Ralph made Carrie out of wedlock.

Carrie after the prank

Margaret then brought Carrie to her knees so that the two could properly pray together. Meanwhile, Margaret had "snapped" earlier on and hidden a knife under one of the floor boards to stab Carrie with, having fallen to the belief that her daughter was ruled by Satan. While they both recited the Lord's Prayer, Margaret stabbed Carrie and caused her to fall downstairs, backwards. She then stalked the frightened child throughout the house, eventually backing Carrie into a corner. Finally, Carrie used her powers to "crucify" her mother to the kitchen doorway.

When it was over, Carrie was overwhelmed by guilt, grief and rage. She screamed to the top of her lungs and grabbed her mother. However, Carrie's powers "spiraled" out of control and caused the house to collapse around her and her mother. Quickly removing Margaret's body from the doorway, Carrie raced for the kitchen closet where she spent many nights being forced to pray for forgiveness and shut the door. Within, Carrie was hit in the head by falling debris and killed. The house was also set aflame due to some of the lit candles falling down, and it eventually sank underground, taking Carrie and Margaret with it.

Sue is the only survivor and, when Sue one day dreams of having put flowers to Carrie´s place, she dreams that Carrie's arm comes out of the ground and is scarred from her dream.

Carrie 2: The Rage

Carrie appears in this movie, too, but in flashbacks through Sue Snell´s memories about what happened regarding the events, which later lead to the Black Prom. We also recognize, that Chamberlain has changed because of Carrie White´s actions. The original high school is in ruins and has not been rebuilt. It has become a sort of memorial of that night, that is haunting the inhabitants one way or another since then. The new Bates High school is now instead in another part of the town and there Rachel Lang, Carrie´s half sister, who is also a telekinetic, is a student of it. There the events of the sequel happen, which later will lead to the Black Party.

2002 film

Carrie in the 2002 film prom before the prank

Actress Angela Bettis played Carrie in the 2002 remake of the original 1976 film. The younger Carrie was played by Jodelle Ferland. This version of the character was more similar to the novel than Sissy Spacek's portrayal. Throughout much of the movie, there were segments where different characters gave their accounts of the Ewen High prom night incident. Also, the "downtown destruction" segment as portrayed in the novel (which was cut from the classic movie because of budget constraints) occurred here, but it is also shown, that Carrie

was not consciously aware of what she was doing, because the evil prank and the subsequent laughter had put her in a temporary, comatose state of mind, which led to the subconscious activation of her rampage. However, when she returns home, she regains her consciousness in the bathtub, where she unconsciously went to clean herself of the blood. There her own mother tried to drown her for being a witch, but she is able to stop her by stopping her heart, but is in a near death situation.

In the aftermath of this version, Carrie did not die, because Sue later came to her place and managed to revive her. She survived her post-prom ordeal with the help of Sue, hid in the ruins of the school and later escaped with Sue to Florida. Carrie later went on to help others with their telekinesis in a hidden manner, eventually setting the stage for a potential TV series. However, that series was never produced.

2013 film

In the 2013 film, Carrie White was portrayed by Chloë Grace Moretz.

Carrie prior to the prank (2013 version).

Carrie in this version is more similar to the book, but in modern terms. At the beginning of the film, Carrie has her first period in the showers and is harassed by Chris and her gang. Chris also films Carrie with her phone while the other girls throw tampons and sanitary napkins at Carrie. Ms. Desjardin tries to calm Carrie down and a light fixture breaks by itself.

Carrie is picked up by her mother Margaret and at home dragged into the closet to pray. She screams at her mother and the closet door cracks. Both are shocked. Carrie then falls asleep in the closet shortly afterward. Her mother lets her out and asks Carrie if she finished praying. Carrie says yes and her mother kisses her on the forehead, telling her she loves her.

At school, Carrie suspects that she has telekinesis. She then begins to study everything she can about her power. While practicing at home, the lights flicker and her mother comes up with a knife to check if she is all right. She lies down on the bed with her.

Carrie makes the knife fly off the desk onto the ground, without her mother noticing. She is asked to the prom by Tommy, but thinks it is a trick and is confronted again while walking home. This time she accepts. Now she tries to tell her mother, but she is disinterested and attempts to walk away after telling her no.

Carrie reveals her power to her mother by lifting up all the furniture and her mother off the floor. She demands that she is going and wants to be normal. Carrie sews her own dress and buys makeup, and on prom night, her mother tries to convince her that it is a trick and threatens to tell Tommy the truth. She telekinetically pushes her mother into the closet and locks the door.

Carrie White After The Prank

She leaves with Tommy and arrives at the prom. There she meets Tommy's friend George and his girlfriend Erika. Carrie is uneasy around them at first but laughs with Erika at their dates goofing off. She laughs when Erika says if they kill each other, she'll just dance with Carrie. When the four sit at their table, Carrie is surprised to see her and Tommy's names on the ballot.

When Tommy asks her if they want to vote for themselves, Carrie is unimpressed. George and Erika leave the two to dance and while Tommy wants to follow them, Carrie is scared to be in the center of attention. Tommy tells her, he wants at least one dance with her. Carrie gives in and dances with him. She feels amazing, as if her whole life has led to this moment.Later, she and Tommy win the election and Carrie is handed flowers while George and Erika cheer them on.

While on stage, Chris drenches Carrie in pig's blood. Carrie is shocked and stares at Tommy in disbelief. Tommy then furiously exclaims, "WHAT THE HELL?!" Carrie begins walking away ignoring Tommy's attempts to get her back on stage. She uses her powers to push Ms. Desjardin away, shocking and scaring George and Erika. The bucket then knocks Tommy unconscious and everyone laughs at Carrie.

Carrie remembers her mother's words and begins running for the door. However after seeing Tommy fall unconscious, she runs back to him and tries to wake him up, but he doesn't. Carrie (along with George, Erika and Ms. Desjardin) is sadden by this believing him to be dead.

However after Chris's video of her having her period appears on screen, Carrie realizes she has had enough. She unleashes her power on everyone by locking the doors and causing objects to fly around the room, killing several people. Sue witnesses this from outside. A fire starts and the school burns down.

In a deleted scene, after Carrie burns Tina, she sees George and Erika staring at her in fear. Carrie stares back at them and after a while, she uses her ability to open an air vent and stops several students from going first. George and Erika run to the vent and Erika nods to Carrie before entering the vent.

After this, Ms. Desjardin and several students manage to escape in the air vent. Many perish in the fire and Carrie leaves, destroying the town, leaving a massive trail of destruction and flames while she walks home.

Eventually, she comes across Chris and Billy who attempt to kill her by running her over, but she uses her power to stop the car and in the process kills Billy and traps Chris in the car, then sends the car flying into the gas station. It blows up, no doubt killing Chris.

Carrie returns home where she finds that her mother has escaped the closet and has gotten hold of a kitchen knife. She strips off her bloody clothes and takes a bath, washing off the blood. She changes into her pajamas and meets her mother in the upstairs hall. Her mother tells her of the night she was raped and therefore conceived her.

Margaret stabs Carrie in the back, but they fly in opposite directions. Carrie then falls down the stairs and brutally hits the wall, leaving a blood stain. Her mother manages to slash her arm in the process. She kills her mother by impaling her with the household objects.

After cradling her mother to death, Carrie realizes what she has done and makes stones begin to rain from the sky. Sue appears shortly afterwards, but is held in the grasp of Carrie. After scanning Sue's brain, she realizes that she had nothing to do with the prank. She tells Sue (who didn't know) that she is pregnant with a girl before throwing her out to safety.

At the end after Sue's words, Carrie's headstone cracks before exploding, you hear her screams. This indicates that Carrie is still alive.

Appearances

Trivia

  • She also shares similarities to Alessa Gillespie from the Silent Hill video game series, as Carrie and Alessa both possessed extremely strong advanced telekinetic/psychokinetic abilities, have been tormented at their schools by their cruel classmates, and both have psychotically religious mothers.
  • She shares a similarity to It and a doctor, who is the villain in The Pied Piper. They are all telekinetic.
  • She shares a similarity to the dog Max in the horror film Man's Best Friend. They both have been tormented and always get revenge.
  • She also shares this similarity to Matilda Wormwood from the Roald Dahl book Matilda, as they both use their powers to get back at those who tormented them.
  • She is not killed in the second adaptation and it is hinted, that she lives in the 2013 adaptation as well.
  • She is also somewhat similar to Lucy from Elfen Lied, as they both are tormented by students and angrily murdered them as they laughed, using forms of telekinesis.
  • She also shares a similarity to Aggie Prenderghast, both being treated as outcast, both having telekinesis and both used their powers to those who offended them.
  • She also shares this similarity to Willow Rosenberg (Alyson Hannigan) from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a girl judged unsightly and humiliated daily by Cordelia Chase, the queen bee of her campus like Chris Hargensen. Willow also obtains a telekinetic power by becoming a witch. Her friendship with Buffy is possibly comparable to the relation between Carrie and Sue Snell as far as these last tries to restore her self-confidence in her and is in a way her guardian angel. However, Willow is neglected and not abused by her parents. Another difference, she was considered like the most studious among the campus contrary to Carrie who is ignored on all spheres. Later, Willow becomes a lesbian. When her girlfriend is murdered, Willow becomes a temporary dark version of herself, vengeful and empowered, similar to Carrie when humiliated in the prom. Interestingly, Willow has a veinous face like Rachel Lang in the sequel. Others females characters on the show are also inspired by Carrie. The relationship between Amy Madison (Elisabeth Ann Allen) and her mother (Robin Riker) is similar to Carrie and her mother from the 1976 film because the father left the family home. The mother becomes psychotic, obsessed by her youthful age and often humiliating her daughter. Another enemy, Drusilla (Juliet Landau) is depicted in her former human life as a pious, shy and virginal girl like Carrie, haunted by her medium power and considered herself like the devil's gift. Becoming schizophrenic and vampirized, she has a comportment similar to Margaret White. Another medium, Cassie Newton (Azura Sky) is depressed by her own power and has cut all relationships.
  • In the 2013 film adaption Carrie was born in 1995 and died in 2013, meaning the film is set in 2013.
  • In the 2013 film adaption, when Carrie tells Sue that her baby is a girl and saves her life, it´s possible, that she now treated Sue as her only real friend in the world.

Powers and Abilities

  • Advanced Telekinesis - Carrie's most known psionic ability is that she can easily control, manipulate, throw and move multiple objects and people at once by strongly focusing her mind on an object or channel her telekinesis through her hands or eyes. While studying the books about telekinesis and miracles she concentrated on a book that was positioned on a table on the other side of her room and while she focused on it lights started to flicker and the floor started shaking, eventually she was controlling all of the books as well as levitating her bed. While heading out the door to prom, Carrie forced Margaret to freeze and telekinetically forced her mouth shut as she pushed her into the Prayer Closet and then slammed and locked the door. During her attack on the student body after her humiliation she showed that she was able to levitate and toss flaming objects, like when she ignited the stage and tossed a flaming moon decoration across the room at a table which then burst into flames. She can also manipulate electric appliances like when she animated electrical cords to attack Tina which zapped her and caught her in the fire which was set on a table. She was also able to telekinetically levitate herself as shown after she finished her attack while she flew off the stage.
  • Telepathy - Although this ability is not entirely sure of, Carrie supposedly telepathically connected with Sue and told her that she would soon have a baby girl, shortly before gently forcing her out of her home. By reading Sue's thoughts, she knew her true feelings and forgives her. It is unknown whether she also possessed empathic abilities also.
  • HydrokinesisAt one point, Carrie was capable of making the sprinklers go haywire and make a shower of liquid water fall over the buring gym.
  • Pyrokinesis & Thermokinesis - Carrie could also pyrokinetically, thermokinetically ignite objects or levitate and throw flaming objects as shown when she tossed a flaming moon decoration into the panicking crowd during her attack, she also showed this while she was walking home as she started igniting objects that were in her path. This ability can be known as telekinetic destruction, molecular combustion, spontaneous combustion, or telekinetic explosions
  • Geokinesis - Carrie also showed the earth-related elemental ability to create strong and destructive earthquakes, when she was pursuing Chris Hargensen and Billy Nolan causing a fissure to follow them. Later, while mourning her mother's death, a distraught Carrie geokinetically summoned a shower of rocks to rain down on and destroy both her and her house.
